Blaze the way, my pioneer Queen!
It’s not as hard as you think and remember my motto – Life is short! Live it up!
Make a list of the moms you know that only have boys - The first thing to do is to rack your brain for fellow Queens. I thought of 20 moms from the neighborhood, school, my kids sports teams and church for my first go round. I am sure that at your first party moms will start to name other moms who are in the same testosterone boat. Your list will grow from there. I doubled my list for the second party that way.
Plan a gathering - Some Queens like to keep things simple and just invite a few of their close friends. Most want to meet lots of new Queens so they can meet regularly, set up playgroups and go from there. It can be as simple as a coffee at your local coffee shop to a full 10 course meal if you like. It is totally up to you. Our chapter has had brunch, high tea, swim parties, meetings at restaurants and at other Queen’s castles. Once you have the guest list and gathering planned it is time to send out the invites with the details.
If you like you can order a Party Box that has everything you need to start your own chapter in it. Invites, tiaras, a pin and special crown for you, official charter, calling cards and a royal red carpet to roll out for your guests are all included. Click on ‘gift shop’ for more info.
Please let me know about your gathering! - I am really trying to expand the Queendom to fulfill our mission of supporting and celebrating other moms of boys. Please send me the details of your gathering so I can list it on the website. If you want to really have fun, get the media involved. Many times when I send press releases to regional papers they want to be able to talk to some local queens to add to the story. I will contact the press in your area and take care of that for you. If you are contacted by the press please let me know about it or just refer them to me. On the day of the party to celebrate our article in Ladies’ Home Journal I was talking about the Queendom on Good Morning Texas. That night a whole bunch of moms I had never met showed up! They had simply seen me on TV and wanted to join in the fun.
It’s Party Time! - Have fun! Remember, Queens don’t stress. Enjoy yourself! Ask one of your fellow Queens to help out if you like. I hired my boys to act as pages for our high tea. They escorted all the Queens to the door and announced them so I could chat along with the ones who had already arrived and not worry about answering the door forty times. All the food was buffet style, I just made sure the champagne kept flowing and all was well. Get your Queen’s e-mail addresses. That way you can keep them posted about your chapter’s events via e-mail. Don’t forget to take pictures and send them to me. I’ll put them on the website so all can bask in your royal glory!
Start planning the next gathering! - I know you will all want to meet again so get some ideas for the next time you all get together. Maybe it will be a set time; every Monday morning at the park or every other week at the coffee shop after the kids are down for the night. (I am known for leaving the Hubby with the kids for a quick decaf and conversation.) Being a mom is a tough, full time job so don’t be discouraged if planning a time convenient for everyone is hard. Just keep at it and remember that I am always here to help.
